Image Builder is a fully managed AWS service that makes it easier to automate the creation, management, and deployment of customized and up to date EC2 images. EC2 Image Builder is an AWS service that makes the creation, maintenance, and deployment of Linux or Windows Server images for use with Amazon EC2 and on-premises an easy task.
AMI – An Amazon Machine Image is the basic unit of deployment in Amazon EC2. AMI is a pre-configured image that contains the OS and preinstalled Software.
Image Pipeline – An Image pipeline is an automation configuration for building secure OS images on AWS.
Image Recipe – An Image builder image recipe is a document that defines the source image and the components to be applied to the source image to produce the desired configuration of the output image.
Source Image – The Source image is the selected image and OS used in your image recipe document.
Build Components – Build components are orchestration documents that define a sequence of steps for downloading, installing and configuring the software packages.
Document – A document that uses the YAML format to list the execution steps for the build, and test an AMI on an instance.

Image Builder is offered at no cost, except for the cost of using underlying AWS resources like EC2 instances, AWS Inspector, S3 to create, test and store images
